Tips for Reduction of Using Paper

1.     Use Computer Tablet
To download the reading material to your computer tablet instead of printing it out.

2.     Practise "Double-Sided" Approach
Always try to print and write on both sides of the paper or scale the page layout to two pages per sheet whenever possible.

3.     Think Before you Print
Practise proof-reading and print preview on the documents before printing. Ensure the page margin and layout is well aligned in order to minimise re-printing due to this careless errors.

4.     Print Only Pages That You Need
Double confirm that you really need the copies you are printing and avoid excess copies.

5.     Prepare a Proper Storage for Paper
You may segregate the paper storage into 3 categories:
                     i.     Paper to be re-used - use your creativity to max up the usage of the paper.
ii.     Paper to be recycled - paper which couldn't be re-used.
iii.     New paper - use it only when needed.

There are some interesting facts that you should aware of and be reminded yourself from time to time. The facts are extracted from http://www.recycling-revolution.com/recycling-facts.html.

Each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!

The 17 trees saved (above) can absorb a total of 250 pounds of carbon dioxide from the air each year. Burning that same ton of paper would create 1500 pounds of carbon dioxide.

The construction costs of a paper mill designed to use waste paper is 50 to 80% less than the cost of a mill using new pulp.
